September 11 Terrorist Attack
The September 11 terrorist attacks occurred in the United States on September 11, 2001. The attacks occurred in several states across the country with terrorists crashing airliners into buildings. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives on this day. As events unfolded the whole world watched in horror and many wondered why this was happening and who was responsible. This event would change history as it would lead to one of the most costly wars in American history. It was rumored that other countries may have known a terrorist attack before it occurred. Supposedly it would happen on US soil but many wonder if the US took this information seriously.
The September 11 terrorist attacks took place in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. There were a number of airplanes that crashed into building structures including the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon in the nation’s capital, and an open field area in the state of PA. The attacks occurred on a beautiful sunny day in September that would quickly become one of the darkest days in history. The attacks started at the World Trade Center after 9:00 a.m. eastern standard time. Shortly after that the next crash occurred in D.C. where a plane crashed into the side of the Pentagon building.
The third crash site happened in Pennsylvania where terrorists tried to crash the plane into the White House. A number of passengers soon realized their plane was being hijacked. They tried to stop the terrorists from crashing the plane into the White House and ended up crashing into an open field area. It was later learned the terrorists wanted to crash airplanes into other areas across the country including other state capitals and national landmarks.
When these crashes occurred the FAA grounded all planes across the United States. This day was one of very few where there were no planes flying in the United States. International flights were diverted and not allowed to enter into the country. The attacks were done by Al Qaeda terrorists who claimed responsibility. The country and the world were in shock, hurting and filled with sadness. This began the war on terror with the United States, British forces and other countries joining in. This event had such an impact on everything from the stock market to traveling and even the weather. Many wonder could something like this have been prevented.
